How Columbus Became The Capital of Ohio
The citizens of Ohio were looking for a central location for their capital city. Several established cities campaigned for the right including Chilcothe and Zanesville. Both of these cities had served as the as the capital in the past.

Why is Ohio Called The Buckeye State
The history of Ohio’s nickname may go back to a story from Marietta, Ohio in 1788. Col. Ebenezer Sproat made quite an impression on the Indians when he led the march to open the first court in the Northwest Territory. Col. Sproat was a large, imposing man and was called Hetuch by the local Native Americans. Hetuch is the name used for the eye of the deer. Col. In Sandusky, Ohio, you will find the Cedar Point Amusement Park and Resort. The Park is located on the shore of Sandusky Bay. The amusement park is loaded with fun featuring 69 rides.
Ohio is the home of Amish country. Berlin, Ohio is located in the heart of Amish Country making it a popular site among tourist visiting Ohio. The Amish live a peaceful and quiet life.

How Ohio Entered The United States
Ohio is the 17th state to enter the Union. The first Europeans to explore the area were the French, who arrived in present day Ohio in the mid-17th century. Before their arrival, the area had populated by several tribes of Native Americans, including the Eerie Indians. Tribal wars with the Iroquois Indians had left the land largely uninhabited for the decade preceding the arrival of Europeans.
