1. How can I join? |
| |
| Print out the membership form
from our website. If you are already on our mailing list, you will
receive an e-mail at the start of the quarter. If not, send an e-mail
to ' buckeyetabletennis' @ gmail.com(remove spaces) to be added to
the mailing list. Registration is only completed after handing in
the membership form and taking care of the quarterly dues (check or
cash). The e-mail will tell you where to find officers at the start
of the quarter. NEW: Pay
your quarterly dues online using PayPal ! |
|
| |
2. Can I join anytime? |
| |
| Registration typically takes place the first week of the quarter. Returning members are allowed to register one week in advance, while newcomers can register on a first-come first-serve for the remaining spots. The cut-off varies depending on the playing times and number of tables made available to the club. |
|
| |
3. How much is the membership? |
| |
| Currently the membership fee is $8 per
quarter for our basic membership. If you want to participate in the
coached practice, you need a premium mmebership at $16 per quarter.
FOr more details on the benefits, check out our club
flyer. |
|
| |
4. I think the membership is too expenssive. What can I do? |
| |
| Members who help to create a successful
fundraisers or find sponsors and donors may be eligible for membership
fee waivers. Also note that our membership fee is lower than most
other sports club, and all the membership money goes back to the club
members somehow. |
|
| |
5. I am a beginner. Do I have to have some experience? |
| |
| In theory, no. However, the club counts most of the better players on campus, and you will probably get the most out of it if you have some playing experience. If you are a beginner, motivation and willigness to practice hard are important. You may also want to consider the PAES table tennis classes offered for credit at OSU. |
|
| |
6. Is there a womens team? |
| |
Yes, we strongly encourage women players
to join the club ! Currently, the Buckeye TTC has one woman team enrolled
in the NCTTA inter-collegiate championships. We are always looking
for some motivated women players, whether you are a beginner or more
advanced player !
A 25% discount is currently in effect for women players. |
|
| |
7. How can I play in the college teams? |
| |
| First, you have to become a club member. Once you are a member, you are allowed to challenge any player currently in the college team (within certain rules), and make your way up to the top ! |
|
| |
8. When / Where does the club play? |
| |
| Playing times and hours may vary each quarter.
Currently, the Buckeye TTC holds the coached practice on Sunday night
(8:00-11:00pm), in room A200, and the leaue play on Tuesday nights
(9:00-11:30) in room A200. There is also free club practice (open
play) on Thursday evening (8:30pm-10:30pm) in room A200. The club
is now able to set-up 10 tables. |
|
| |
9. Do I need to have my own paddle? |
| We recommend that you bring your own paddle.
Some cheap beginner paddles are available at the RPAC and Jesse Owens
South. The club also has some beginner paddles to be borrowed or bought
(starting at $3). If you are ready to get some serious equipment,
contact the club at buckeyetabletennis** @ ** gmail.com (remove stars
and spaces) . Experienced club members are able to assist you in the
choice of your blade and rubber sheets. The club also organizes group
purchases to get free shipping and discounts in certain cases. |
|
| |
10. Are there table tennis scholarships at OSU? |
| |
| Unfortunately, the Buckeye TTC is a recreational
club, and only athletics (football, baseball, basketball, swimming...)
can receive scholarship funding at OSU. However, the club has suggested
in the past to create a private scholarship funding pool to convince/attract
strong players. 'Strong' would be approximately above 2250 for men's,
and above 2000 for women. If you think your may be eligible, contact
buckeyetabletennis** @ ** gmail.com (Remove stars and spaces). |
|
| |
11. I think the club could be improved. How can I help? |
| |
| We are always looking for officers, volunteers, or anyone willing to contribute to the development of the club. Some current opportunities can be found on the volunteering page. |
